Initial fee proposal to a domestic client
This letter is similar to the commercial initial fee proposal adapted for use with the
domestic project conditions and it demonstrates how the matters that do not appear
in those Conditions are covered. It is, again, mainly explanatory and may help the
less experienced Client to understand the scope of the Contract.

SCOPE OF SERVICES

CDM Regulations and Principal Designer role
The CDM Regulations were introduced by the UK Health and Safety Executive
some years ago to reduce the incidence of death and injury in the construction
industry. The current CDM Regulations came into force in 2015 and now apply to
all projects, including domestic contracts, to ensure that the design and detailing
of a project and the way it is executed will as far as possible eliminate risks to
contractors and end-users. Please see the attached Information for Clients which
outlines your obligations under the Act. The RIBA recommends that the default
choice for the role of Principal Designer should be the Architect. We would
to undertake this role and the RIBA Domestic Professional
Services Contract 2018 that we would propose to use has the option for us to be
appointed as Principal Designer under the Act.
