Acoustic consultantProvides specialist acoustic advice on particular projects in relation to
sound quality in spaces or noise transfer between rooms or from the
external environment.
ArchaeologistUndertakes desktop and site investigations to comply with any
requirement of the planning consent.
BREEAM assessor
Carries out BREEAM assessments.
Cladding specialistUndertakes specialist design and/or reviews of aspects of the external
cladding of a building, particularly where bespoke solutions are proposed.
Catering consultantProvides strategic and briefing catering advice as well as specific
designs derived from the final catering brief.
Access consultant
issues.
Provides specialist advice in relation to disabled and other access
Facilities managementReviews the design proposals and comments on facilities management
and in-use maintenance matters.
(FM) adviser
Fire engineerProvides fire engineering advice in relation to fire engineered solutions
and/or advice in relation to fire aspects of the Building Regulations.
Highways consultantProvides strategic advice on the implications of a design on the adjacent
road network and may provide travel plans, transport assessments or
other road-related information.
Information managerManages the flow of information between parties – note that this is not a
design role.
Interior designerProvides particular design services in relation to the interior design of
a project.
Landscape architect
Responsible for carrying out the landscape design.
Lighting designerProvides specialist lighting advice internally or in relation to the
floodlighting and external lighting of a project.
MasterplannerProvides specialist advice for larger sites in relation to planning, roads,
social issues and other high-level strategies.
Operational lead
Responsible for the facilities management (FM) aspects of the building.
Party wall surveyorProvides specialist advice in relation to adjacent properties and issues
such as right of light.
Planning consultant
Provides specialist advice in relation to planning applications.
Security adviserConsiders security issues in relation to the design of a building and may
assist with certain briefing aspects.
Signage designer
Provides wayfinding strategies and the design of the corresponding

Provides strategic advice in relation to green issues.
Technical adviserA consultant employed by the client to provide specific advice,
particularly on design and build or contractor-led procurement routes.
